About Us

Welcome to HANDS Nepal

Human & National Development Society (HANDS) Nepal is a social, non-governmental, non-political, non-profit making Sindhuli based and multi-disciplinary organization registered at the District Administration Office (DAO), Sindhuli in 2057 B.S. and affiliated with the Social Welfare Council (SWC), Kathmandu since 2061 B.S. HANDS Nepal was initiated by a group of well -qualified and experienced professionals who have several years’ experiences in the area of natural resources management and integrated community development sectors. It was established with an aim to bring about sustainable development of the rural communities of Nepal through envisioning, implementing and supporting community initiatives to development. It focuses on governance, human/dalit/child rights, women empowerment, Water, Sanitation and Hygiene (WASH), gender and social inclusion, income generation, protection, health, education

and sanitation of rural communities. It has been working in Sindhuli, Sindhupalchowk, Dolakha and Udayapur, Makawanpur, Lalitapur, Chitawan, Mahottari, Sarlahi, Dhanusha, Siraha, Rasuwa, Morang districts for strengthening the local governments and empowering the communities by providing knowledge, skills and awareness on education, WASH, health, solid waste management, livelihood, protection, gender, disaster and climate change adaptation in partnership with various international organizations. It has more than 20-year experience in the field of community development and already implemented more than 42 projects in partnerships with various international organizations including Plan International Nepal, TIFA Japan, Heifer International Nepal, World Vision International etc. All these projects have benefitted more than 200,000 populations in project implemented districts.

Mission

Carry out integrated actions and systematic approaches creating enabling environment for capacity building of the development actors in terms of social, economic, political, cultural and environmental empowerment of the target groups.

Vision

HANDS envisions prosperous and equitable society where every individual specially women, children, Dalits and marginalized receives basic needs with quality education, health services and their rights for dignified life.

Goals

HANDS Nepal aims to secure rights to sustainable livelihood, quality education and health services leading to dignified life of community where differently people, children, women, Dalit and marginalized are equally treated.

Objectives

  • Empower community people and improve life standard through integrated program on education, sustainable livelihood, disaster management, water and sanitation, public health, agriculture, livestock and off-farm activities, wetland management, renewable energy technologies (RETs), climate change, environmental conservation activities.
  • Enhance assess of marginalized community and develop linkages between local community groups and related government service providers for technical and financial support on different sectorial areas especially on child centered community development program.
  • Social mobilization on obtaining financial and technical resources for enterprises development and livelihood options that includes livestock, agriculture product and micro finance.
  • Capacity building of local CBO and community groups mainly local cooperatives, mother groups, youth groups.
  • Raise voice against abuse and exploitation of women and children specially girls and children who are at risk and promote protective environment for them.
  • Sensitize community people especially pregnant women, mothers of children under five years’ age; about health care practices through counseling method and to refer them to receive the health services from health facilities.
  • Strengthened gender transformative and inclusive education facilities and systems for all children especially for girls, children with disabilities and Dalit children.

HANDS Nepal works are guided by the following five values:

  1. Integrity: HANDS Nepal members and staff are committed to work with high integrity by demonstrating transparency in both financial and program matters. Honesty, trust and fulfilling the commitment at work are key parameters of its success. HANDS will ensure that all beneficiaries and stakeholders are aware of all resource mobilization and of all decisions that affect them.
  2. Inclusion: HANDS Nepal intend to put more emphasis on the inclusion of excluded and marginalized sections based on gender, caste, ethnicity, economic status and geographical situation in order to contribute towards creating a just and equitable society. Particularly, HANDS Nepal want to eliminate all forms of discrimination based on gender, caste and ethnicity at work place and in the communities by encouraging meaningful participation in planning and decision-making.
  3. Accountability: HANDS Nepal is committed for optimal use of resources for the maximum benefit of the target communities. It always strives to maintain the highest standards and sustainability of its works in the communities. It always focuses on transparency of its activities and all financial transactions. It tends to be responsive to community needs, align with government priorities and policies and meeting the expectations of funding agencies. HANDS will be accountable to stakeholders, including rights holders (children and communities) for the effective and efficient use of resources.
  4. Empathy with poor and marginalized: HANDS Nepal is committed to rendering the selflessness services and dedication to the poor, vulnerable and marginalized groups in the target areas. It seeks to understand the real situation and needs of the marginalized groups and dedicate itself in addressing them together with them.
  5. Mutual respect: HANDS Nepal respect the sense of dignity, rights and duties of every individual as a human within and outside. HANDS seek mutual respect among its members including the staff, all government authorities and individuals in the target communities to promote a sense of harmony.
